Led by Maestro Michael Palmer, Conductor and Artistic Director, AYO will provide each student with the opportunity to experience group orchestral instruction, sectionals, and coaching by some of the finest metro area professional musicians whom perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
AYO accepts all instruments.
~ Words from Founder ~
This is what it looks like when young people perform, when they come together to allow their instruments to make the most beautiful sounds. But it also happens with great dedication, study, and the support of family and friends. I am honored to have the opportunity to teach these young people, to help them grow in their musical abilities. This is why I am proud to share with you exciting news about the AYO and… to ask for your help.
The Atlanta Youth Orchestra is a premium youth ensemble whose mission is to provide high quality professional level instruction and performance opportunities for young musicians throughout metro Atlanta. It holds non-profit status as an IRS approved 501(c)3 organization. It is modeled after one of the world’s best youth orchestras, the Asian Youth Orchestra (another AYO), which I coached for many years. These students gather for six weeks each July in Hong Kong, rehearse for three weeks, and then travel internationally for three weeks performing with some of the world’s most notable soloists. In order to develop our Atlanta Youth Orchestra program, we are delighted to inform you that the inaugural 2017 AYO Summer Training Camp was a tremendous success. The second AYO Summer Training Camp is from June 11 – 16, 2018.
AYO announce its first European Tour in the summer of 2019, including three concerts in Budapest, Prague, and Vienna with exciting conductor, first prize winner at 2018 European Union Conducting Competition, Mr. Henry Chen. Detail information will be posted soon.
There are two main goals I have set for the AYO, focused around the aspects of inspiring world citizenship and promoting peace through cultural exchange.
First, serving as cultural ambassadors. This camp will provide each student with the opportunity to experience group orchestral instruction, sectionals, and coaching by some of the nest metro area professional musicians whom perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The value of music education will be stressed. As a result, these students will have performance opportunities, not only in and around North Fulton and the Atlanta metro, but ultimately on the world stage. As part of the summer program, we will endeavor to perform internationally, building bonds between different cultures while showcasing our region’s best musicians.
Second, community outreach. I seek to establish a year-round program, sponsored by the business community and private individuals, which will enable the AYO to provide free music lessons to the children of underserved communities. Through the appropriate funding, this program can become a reality and extend the impact the AYO can have far beyond the summer music camp.
By establishing the summer camp program first, we can build a solid foundation and work toward these future aspirations. In order to ensure success, we will need to fund many aspects of this camp. Tuition alone will not cover all of the costs, which is why I seek your assistance.
Will you help?
By making a tax deductible donation to AYO, you will make it possible for us to:
– Hire the best possible professional coaches and staff
– Engage the services and talents of Maestro Michael Palmer
– Help defray program and operational costs and provide tuition assistance
– Enable the students to participate in an outstanding finale concert(s)
You can also become a business sponsor for the camp. Your business will be associated with an exceptional youth entity and the professionals who seek to nurture young talent and prepare them for their musical and cultural journeys. Thank you for your support of the AYO. Please contact me should you have any questions or would like additional information. I welcome the chance to meet with you personally, or to come speak to your groups or businesses. I am excited to share our news and tell you our story. It’s a great one!
